Divorce Coaching, Some Stats
In 2018 when I was studying to become a certified divorce coach, I was shocked how few statistics there actually were regarding divorce. Basic research back then couldn’t event confirm the familiar, if not properly referenced statistic, “50% of all marriages end in divorce”.
In the handful of years since I began divorce coaching, the CDC has actually published divorce data as captured officially through the 2010 census.
📝Did you know?👇🏼
Every 42 seconds there is one divorce in the U.S., equating to 2,046 divorces per day, 746,971 divorces per year, and 430 divorces from the “I dos”👰♀️ to cutting the cake at an average wedding (5 hours).
Every 16 seconds there is one marriage in the U.S., or 230 marriages per hour, and 2,015,603 per year. That’s a lot of cake.🍰
The more meaty CDC data reveals:
- Over a 40 year span, 67% of first marriages fail 💔
- The average duration of a first marriage ending in divorce is 8 years
- The average age for first marriage divorce is 30 years old (who are these 22 year olds getting married?!)
- In a heterosexual divorce filing, 66% of petitioners are women 💋
- Nevada has the highest divorce rate 🎲 (5.6%) and Pennsylvania (2.8%) has the lowest. Arkansas has the highest rate of residents that have been married 3+ times.
The average cost 💸 of a divorce is $15,000 in the U.S.
These divorced couples had some pretty big portfolios to settle:
- Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos $160 billion
- Bill and Melinda Gates $130 billion
- Rupert and Anna Murdoch $1.7 billion
So, dear reader, how do I add value to your day by reading this post?
First, when considering my services as a divorce coach, know that I approach every new client from a place of “can I help save this marriage” first. If that path has been exhausted, well there are a few things you need to have to get started:
"Today, it is easier to get divorced in most states than to get a transmission repaired properly." - Dave Barry
